Plastic Free July!

Year upon year enormous amounts of plastic ends up in landfill sites never to be used again.

During the early lockdowns of 2020 we saw changes with pollution and green house gases reduced across the world. July 2021 is the month in which the awareness of our plastic use is highlighted, especially in events as the industry moves to becoming more environmentally friendly and sustainable. Plastic Free July is all about reducing waste, reusing plastic that you already have so that it reaches landfill at a much later stage of its life cycle; as well as preserving our world to make it a ‘greener’ place to live.

The phrase ‘climate change’ is a phrase we all know and speak about, but what does it actually mean? And what are you doing to counteract it? We need to rethink our plastic usage to create a circular economy for plastic. Perhaps the entire plastics system needs a redesign that benefits those not only using it for its economic value, but also a system that benefits the longevity of our planet.

At Autograph Events we have been investing our time into educating ourselves further on how we as a company can reduce our carbon footprint, as well as what our clients can incorporate into their events to ensure that they are as carbon free as possible.

Here are 3 suggestions to help you begin your plastic free event journey:

  • Ensure the suppliers and vendors that you are bringing into your event are on board with your ‘plastic free’ ethos! By ruling out certain materials such as plastic straws and water bottles, you will be able to work with your vendors to find suitable solutions that reduce waste and save time and money on cleaning up litter at the end of an event.
  • Offer reusable items at your next event by eliminating single use plastics. Use this as an opportunity to create branded reusable giveaway items that can act as a memorable takeaway from your event.
  • Use signage with effective communication so that you can encourage your delegates to bring their own alternatives. We see people taking their own bags to supermarkets so why not introduce the same effect to your events? This can save you money on materials, as well as endorsing the message that you aim to cut down on litter and adopt new sustainable practices.
