Meliá Hotels International FAM trip, Mallorca

In October one of our Event Managers, Charley, was kindly invited by the Meliá Hotels International to accompany them on a FAM Trip to Palma, Mallorca.

Charley’s perception of Palma was completely changed by this trip, and she felt very honoured to be able to experience the beauty and the culture the island had to offer.

The Meliá Hotels International was founded in 1956 in Mallorca, Spain and they now have over 390 hotels throughout 40 countries. The strategic focus on international growth has allowed Meliá Hotels International to be the first Spanish hotel company with a presence in key markets such as China, Middle East or the U.S., as well as maintaining its leadership in traditional markets such as Europe, Latin America or the Caribbean. The brand is committed to responsible tourism has led the Group to become the most sustainable hotel company in the world, according to RobecoSam.

In Mallorca there are 7 Meliá hotels and 15 other Meliá brands, Charley was lucky to visit 6 of their properties in the beauty capital, Palma. Each hotel exudes modern luxury and offers a range of facilities perfect for either business or leisure. The standout property for events had to be the Meliá Palma Bay which boasts 268 bedrooms, 200 of those being twins which is ideal for large conferences. The star feature of this property was the newly designed Congress Centre connected to the 3rd floor of the hotel.

The centre itself is an impressive building, designed by a Spanish architect who built the venue with a mixture of sustainable materials including recycled cans to give the feel of the antique walls of the old city. The intelligent design keeps the centre temperature regulated, allowing huge amounts of daylight in but also is completely soundproof from the bustling city on its doorstep. The venue can hold up to 2000 people and is only 10 minutes from the airport ideally located just off the main highway. The rooms are very airy with lots of beautifully designed space giving it a luxe feel. The hotel only uses recycled pens and paper and no tablecloths helping keep it very eco-friendly. There are a host of breakout areas to choose from and easy access all around this large site. Below are 268 car parking spaces as well as very easy transport links to the other Meliá hotels in the area. The space is ideal for conferences big or small and if delegates need to be split across hotels your one dedicated planner will ensure smooth transport and operations during the event. This is one very impressive event space.

The hotels located around Palma are nothing short of impressive. Each property has its own unique modern design whilst keeping a very high-class atmosphere. Each hotel has meeting rooms able to accommodate groups of almost any size and are all located in very close proximity of each other and the beautiful city.

Surrounding the city Charley was very impressed with the beautiful countryside. She visited the wineries and beautiful country houses which are ideal for dinners and parties during any groups stay. Each location had a whole wealth of history and beautiful architecture set in the gorgeous Spanish landscapes.

Overall Charley was blown away by the City’s beauty and impressed with the quality these hotels had to offer. Even being in the heart of the city the hotels felt worlds away from the hustle and bustle however being so extremely accessible and very short distances from each other, you still felt you were in your own little sanctuary.
